I need help identifying the meaning of a quote?

"I do not say that John or Jonathon will realize all this: but such is the character of that marrow which mere lapse of time can never make to dawn." One of the last lines in "Walden" by Thoreau. I have no clue what this is suppose to mean. So, what does it mean?
