Re: Kennel Club "Locality". What determines whether a dog should live in "Town or Country"?

The Town and Country specification is used to determine whether a dog can live a healthy life in the country or in a town. Some bigger dogs with low-energy lifestyles can be considered both. Bulldogs for instance, make perfect apartment dogs. German Shepherds, Labradors, Syberian Huskies..etc..etc. are all breeds that require a lot of running, and are often considered country dogs. Their nature and origins also dictate how they are clified. This clification doesn't take into account the exercise the owner gives the dog. A country dog can happily live in the city as long as enough exercise is given to the dog. Country dogs are high energy dogs that need to open spaces. These dogs are usually runners, retrievers..etc...These dogs are also very adaptive. They can adapt readily to city life, yet, if they are not exercised by their owners, they can get fat. This is why some dogs like Rottweilers and Labradors have a high tendency to get fat...these dogs were not bred for city life, rather, they were bred for high energy lifestyles involving the country...outside the city limits. So, the origin of the dog, the purpose, the type of energy requirements and even the size of the dog might help clify a dog as country or town....
